mouseover pics for larger viewThe line up of donkeys at the AGM (from left) are Misty with Elton Moore and Jill Connor. Misty is nine years old. I have known her since she was a foal, she was the first of three foals that were unwanted. She was given away to people who ignored her but would not sell her until she was seven and very fat. I took her with the proviso that if she was safe in harness and would float easily she could stay; She does all these things and more so she has stayed.
Patches the coloured jenny with Andrea and Lea is 15 years old. She came to me in 1998 at 18 months old, when we last had the AGM in Napier and the Donkey Society had its photo in the paper. She had been left in a racing stable in Hastings and was scaring the horses, they were going to shoot her but through the photo in the paper she was given to Judy Coop who thought she was too big and gave her to me. She has a phobia about crossing culverts and will not cross the one up our drive.
Whoopi is led by Gabrielle Harper and is 11 years old, she is the daughter of Tony. She will pull a cart but is nervous if she sees ladders, bins, clothing etc.
Tony is with Pauline Sainsbury and Linda Hayes. He is 14. I found him with his 'wife' Tilly now rehomed and his two daughters Whoopi and Nita. He got Nita in foal at 12 months and Sparkey was the result.
Sparkey with Trevor Stevens and Joan Rabbitte is 10 years old. His mother died when he was 8 months old. He and Tony are also driven as a pair.
Whoopi, Tony, Nita and Tilly were bought by me as the owner couldn't cope with them multiplying and wouldn't geld Tony.
