The Donkey & Mule Society of New Zealand (Inc.)

The Donkey & Mule Society of New Zealand is the only National Breed Organisation in New Zealand for Donkeys and Mules of all types. It administers the Donkey & Mule Society of New Zealand Register which includes mammoth, standard, miniature donkeys and mules. It provides up-to-date information on donkey care and practical advice on training.

Left below: Peter and Marion van Dijk lead the parade from the Auckland Anglican Cathedral, for the Blessing of the animals in October (St Francis’s Day), with Frontier Legends Lillian which was on her first NZ outing. Merry Go Round 4 Leaf Clover had the silver fern painted on her and was right up front on the altar. They both behaved beautifully.

The Society is concerned about the number of Jacks appearing on TradeMe advertised as being suitable for children or as pets. Entire Jacks (stallions) are not safe; they can suddenly become aggressive without warning. Only geldings and jennys should be considered.
