Small Irish Donkeys
Mediterranean Donkeys
Mules

Welcome to Cotswold Stud, situated at Motukarara in the foothills of Banks Peninsula, South Island.

Taranganba McGinty, is the foundation jack of our stud. We later imported three jennies

Our aim was to breed small English/Irish type donkeys under 10 hands with good bone, nice conformation and a wonderful temperament that would be suitable for a family to enjoy.

We also breed Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys and our first crop of foals by Pea Wee are due this season. Cotswold is also the home of our purebred Shetland pony stud & our much-loved mule, El Donto. We enjoy showing and our stock have won many awards over the years.

Jacks at stud:

  • Arcadia Pinnochio 10.hh. black/brown. (Pure English Breeding)
  • Chateau Texas Premier MB (Pea Wee). 30.5" grey/dun (Pure American Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys)
  • Taranganba McGinty (imp Aus) 8.3hh black. (Pure Irish Breeding) McGinty is no longer available to outside jennies.

Donkeys occasionally for sale to approved homes.
Visitors are most welcome to come to our stud.

McGinty was imported from Queensland, Australia, in 1992, a purchase that we would never regret. He is a delightful little fellow and a treasure to own. McGinty has been a wonderful breeding jack. He has the most superb temperament and this has been past on to his progeny. McGinty was 6 times consecutive winner of the Colin Thom Memorial Cup for the jack whose progeny won the most breed championships over the year. He is no longer available to outside jennies but youngstock are sometimes available.
